When you create an account or use PunjabiShelf, we collect the following categories of information to provide and improve our service.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information only for the purposes described below. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating and improving PunjabiShelf.
- Create and manage your account, and authenticate your identity when you sign in
- Process your premium subscription payment via Razorpay and activate your access
- Personalise your home screen, book recommendations, and reading history
- Remember your reading progress so you can continue from where you left off
- Fulfil and deliver hard copy book orders to your provided address
- Send important notifications — payment confirmation, premium expiry reminders, new books
- Monitor app performance, fix bugs, and improve the user experience
- Respond to your support requests and bug reports
Third-Party Services
PunjabiShelf uses the following third-party services to function. Each operates under its own privacy policy. We share only the minimum data each service needs.
Data Storage & Security
Your personal data is stored on Google Firebase servers (Google Cloud Infrastructure), which provides encryption at rest and in transit using industry-standard TLS protocols. Firebase is SOC 2 certified and GDPR compliant.
We implement Firebase Security Rules ensuring your data is accessible only to you — no other user can read or write your account data, reading history, or orders. All API calls are made over HTTPS exclusively.
Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active. If you have not used the app for 36 consecutive months, we may delete your account data after providing 30 days' notice by email.
Order information is retained for 7 years in accordance with Indian tax and commerce regulations. Reading history and bookmarks are retained indefinitely — but you can clear them from your Profile at any time.
You may request complete deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing support.punjabishelf@gmail.com. We process deletion requests within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
PunjabiShelf is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users between 13 and 18 may use the app with parental consent.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at support.punjabishelf@gmail.com. We will delete the information promptly upon verification.
Your Rights
You have the following rights with respect to your personal data. Email support.punjabishelf@gmail.com to exercise any of these — we respond within 30 days.
- Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated personal data
- Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable JSON format
- Opt-out of notifications: Disable app notifications from your device Settings at any time
- Revoke Google Sign-In: Remove PunjabiShelf's access via myaccount.google.com at any time
- Complaint: Lodge a complaint with India's data protection authority if you believe your rights have been violated
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time as our app evolves. For significant changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app.
Your continued use of PunjabiShelf after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. Previous versions are available upon request by emailing support.punjabishelf@gmail.com.
